People don't respect roles that involve writing because they secretly think they could be a really good writer if they tried hard enough. Nobody looks at coding/art roles and goes "yeah I could draw / code that if I tried" but everyone thinks they could write copy if they wanted
I've dedicated my entire life to learning the craft of writing well. Won't lie, it hurts when friends in other disciplines say, "I could probably write a best seller if I wanted to". And yes, perhaps so, but probably not right off the bat.
Listening to people shrug off your entire career - the thing you've bled over - as something they could just pick up one day is... well, it hurts. A whole bunch.
Writing is easy. Writing well is hard.
