How do you cope with applying everywhere and hearing nothing back?

It hurts. Although sometimes studios just take a really really long time. Like literally >3 months. In publishing, writers like King will say “Collect rejections”, “Aim for 100 rejections a year”. But that’s not really feasible when you’re applying for a means of income.

Another approach is to always be looking at the next application. Once one is sent off, it’s dead to you until further notice. Keep busy, keep proactive, keep looking forward — or at least looking at the present. One will come.

I’d add, keep a spreadsheet of what applications you put in and when. That way it will keep you from applying more than once to the same thing, and also you can re-apply to a company after six months.

Great idea. This way, once you can see how long it’s been, you can also send a follow up to ask about the state of your application, which I think is fair after a very long time. You can also ask for feedback, just in case they have the time to provide it.
