I don't understand why people quote tweet just to say they agree with something. Just retweet it? Or reply, if you feel the need. If you have a valuable contribution, fine, but otherwise all it does is centre the discussion on you and create distance from the content of value.
This isn't aimed at anyone in particular. And I'm probably being the grumpy Twitter police. It just feels like "some dopamine for me too pls".
Okay I'm *definitely* being grumpy Twitter police here. Sorry. I guess what I'm trying to say is "Ask yourself why you're doing it".
Valuable contribution = many things. Maybe it’s to highlight that people should read the entire associated thread, or to reinforce how awesome someone is. Maybe the tweet needs context. Loads of reasons. Just maybe reconsider if your reason is “I want attention”.
i feel like it's definitely increased due to a small holdover from when twitter nuked retweets in the algorithm and prioritised quote retweets. but yeah i hate that shit sometimes

I mean... it kinda *is* about dopamine and being heard/seen, even if it's just because you add "Awesome!" or give a thumbs up. It may not add much to the discussion, it's just to say "Hi, I exist!" in a world where we're all talking at a bunch of people on a screen...
Fair enough. It doesn't matter much with blah topics but sometimes someone has something really valuable to contribute, and instead of just lifting them up it's like... "Okay but don't forget that I exist too". Maybe I'm being too hard on people.
