I don't understand why people quote tweet just to say they agree with something. Just retweet it? Or reply, if you feel the need. If you have a valuable contribution, fine, but otherwise all it does is centre the discussion on you and create distance from the content of value.

Valuable contribution = many things. Maybe it’s to highlight that people should read the entire associated thread, or to reinforce how awesome someone is. Maybe the tweet needs context. Loads of reasons. Just maybe reconsider if your reason is “I want attention”.

I do wonder if it does make a difference in how it appears in someone's feed. I don't know but it might make it more likely to be featured if it's quoted maybe.

it's very useful in encapsulating a multi-tweet thread, or at least signifying that the featured tweet is part of a larger argument, at least

I agree with this. I'm not saying I never do it - I do it frequently if I feel that a contribution will help somehow, which may be to draw attention to something that might otherwise have been overlooked. Summarising threads is a great example.

To me a quote tweet can be more like a personal and stronger endorsement than just the quick tap of the retweet, but I know others feel more how you do. I just do it once in a while to emphasize I really like something and want to ask people to check it out,or maybe add a thought
