I'm an INFJ, which is to say I possess dominant Ni and auxiliary Fe. If we acknowledge that I/E is a spectrum, that means I have an ENFP side, since that would be dominant Ne and auxiliary Fi. And that actually feels very true for me.

Talking specifically about the judging functions, my comfort place is (and will probably always be) to defer to the group, to offer my cheek for a slap if it means ultimate harmony. But I won't always do that. Because I am not just my two most-used traits.

We use all our functions; the distinction is in what position and to what degree. I like to visualise INFJ like this:pic.twitter.com/1VkiJnpaMf

To give an even more concrete example... I fell out with a friend last year. My immediate impulse was to roll over, to invite criticism, to do whatever it took to repair the relationship, even if it meant questioning my own reality and perception of events. I gaslit myself.

As time passed, I used the reassurance from better friends to rely more on my less prominent Fi side. I developed the bravery, confidence and self-respect to confront that friend and stand up for myself. To give ground where it was earned, to be humble where I had messed up...

But to stand by the times when I was right, or just, or where I had been unjustly maligned. Fi was not my default, but I'm capable of it, and I am healthier for strengthening it. Likewise, sometimes Fe doms grow by learning when to give way to others and take one for the team.

Now, as to extroversion, introversion and ambiversion as they're more commonly used. I do still think they have a place in Jung's method, but it's just less stark than http://16personalities.com would have people believe.

Myers-Briggs evaluated each letter in the initialism separately, in a way reminiscent of the Big Five test. But I'm personally far more partial to Jung's method of introverted or extroverting certain functions, which feels more interconnected, involved and nuanced.

I think people with dominant extroverted traits are more likely to be socially extroverted, but the relationship is simply less defined than Myers-Briggs indicates.

There's also an argument to say that your dominant trait is developed in childhood, your aux in teen years, and that teens and young adults lean more on their newly-aquired aux than their dom.

If that is true, you could feasibly have an extroverted person who first learned Ne/Se/Te/Fe as a child, but gained Ni/Si/Ti/Fi as a teen, and now comes across as more introverted. I also think social anxiety is often mistaken for introversion.

I spent most of my childhood alone, friendless, in my room making up stories. Living in my own world. That was my dominant trait, Ni. When my less prominent Ne side came out, those were the times when I invited others into my world and talked enthusiastically about all my ideas.

As a teen, I realised that I needed friends. That my social skills were lacking. So I worked extra, extra hard and developed Fe. Combined with my Christian upbringing, this taught me to defer to others and to value kindness.
