Anyone got any tips for being okay with shitty first drafts? I need to break my habit of endless revision, but I'm seemingly incapable of making progress if I hate what I have so far... which I almost always do.

One technique is to say, ok did that section get the characters/story etc. to the point it needed to? Ok, into the vault it goes and I continue to write, then revising will come later for the finer details. Once a chapter is broadly correct, lock it in. Harder in practice, obvs

Will you consider a section locked even if the prose itself is temporarily dire? So long as the broad shape is correct?

If I believe in the story enough, yes. There's another debate to be had for killing an idea, but assuming you wish to stick with it, then yeah, that can all be fixed. As long as I have propelled enough of the elements to begin chapter 2, because otherwise the story can't continue

Absolutely sticking with the idea. I've already done a lot of wheat-and-chaffing. This iteration just... doesn't exist yet in prose form. Just a very thorough outline and lots and lots of notes.
