Is the cutlery used? Speaking from personal experience... is it possible she’s grappling with an eating disorder and using the cutlery to binge eat in secret? Would explain the cutlery, the secretiveness, the shame. It feels absolutely horrid to be caught binging.

I thought that, but binge eaters typically don’t require a plate, knife & fork.

I think that can very much depend on what’s being eaten. I was bulimic for a long time and would use those things sometimes.
