So it’s a two-part problem. First, personally, that style of gameplay just isn’t for me, and I happen to be playing a game that embraces several different styles. I’m resisting that. Second, I think I’m experiencing a lack of confidence that more story is forthcoming —
— because I’m someone who needs structure, reassurance, a clear path ahead. But you can’t please everyone. Plenty of people in AC’s target audience love exploration and the assassination/combat aspect in its own right.
I get it: what you're describing is why I didn't get more than a couple of hours into Breath of the Wild. Game seemed great but I had no real idea what I was supposed to be doing beyond some high-level objectives so I just dropped it.
As for more story awaiting you...I haven't played through the game yet so don't know the exact order of events, but I'm pretty sure you've still got the big ending of the game to come, which is at least very meaty in terms of exposition and includes a lot of unique content.
