But this is a serious issue. The real scale of the problem is simply never quantified in the media, with the ultimate effect that it has been hugely exaggerated in popular perception. This is well documented. Do we not need some metric to gauge the scale of the problem?

I'm not sure what people expect from him - I can only imagine it feels like being stuck in a Kafka novel. Honestly I think his response showed remarkable restraint considering the degree to which his reputation has been dragged through the mud.
