Let's talk canon death. If you mess up a level, or get an NPC killed, would you like the game to consider that canon, like, say, in Detroit: Become Human, or force you to replay, like in, say, Ghost of Tsushima? 1/2

The more I think about it, I like that you chose Tsushima as an example. While playing I remember being surprised that the game entered a fail state when a hostage died. For me this reinforced a roleplaying component for the game: Jin doesn’t let innocents die.

In that instance it became less about my personal experience as a player and more about the sandals the team wanted me to step into. I guess this is similar to how you don’t choose if you want to become the Ghost or not...the narrative forces you (mirroring Jin’s lack of choice).

Yep, that was my reason for choosing it. Folks generally like the concept of canon failure on paper, but in Tsushima's case it fits the character not to fail, or to do things in a certain way. It's about telling a precise story.
