Question for people with ADHD: Does your ADHD affect how you play games, or the kinds of games you play? If so, how? What do you find accessible vs inaccessible?

Primarily Inattentive type ADHD-er here - I get completely absorbed with a game and play for way too long, i.e. I have to preset alarms before playing to make sure that I eat, sleep at the usual times. I sometimes avoid playing games that I think will do this to me
Thanks for this! Do you find there are types of games (or aspects of games) that feel more or less accessible? Things like open world vs more contained environments, having more or fewer things to do, etc?

As mentioned in another tweet, I've got a short working memory, so I suck at remembering lots of new details - when the game keeps logs and records for me (i.e. button controls!) that's useful. For any type of game the tutorial is really critical for me.

I fall into the literally can’t stop playing sometimes and the worst offenders are games without set break points like finishing a quest or a level or some natural point to transition away from playing the game.

Like the Civilization games are the worst because it’s just turn after turn after turn. I’ve lost entire weekends to Civ. Sims can be bad too. Animal Crossing can be a time sink, but being in real time helps a lot, especially since it’s not prompting for the next action.
