Remembering fondly the time (~two years ago) when a senior took me aside to talk about my interest in an internal role for five minutes, with no warning, which turned out afterwards to have been my interview. They told me I hadn't got it several weeks after hiring someone else.
Oh I forgot to mention, this was a job they had previously promised me — then delayed, then withheld — after working it on top of my previous job AND my departed manager's job for over half a year. Yes, I'm still bitter. Also yes, my life is better for it, because I made it so.
Know what covering three people's responsibilities does to you? It burns you out. It annihilated my mental health. And when that happens, you don't do your job very well. Instead of fixing my workload, they put me on a Performance Improvement Plan.
Luckily the story has a happy ending. I didn't have any reason to stay, so I left and became a Narrative Designer. It's like they say: Rob someone of everything and they're no longer in your power. They're free.
