It's been ten days and I'm still thinking about this thread. This is it. This is the reason why I struggle to commit to long games these days. There’s a reason why all the games I like most wed gameplay to narrative rather than the other way around.
It’s easy for us to say “well, words are cheaper so they’re also more expendable”. And that’s true — to a degree. But it has its limit.
I’m just saying, maybe I’d care more about your game if the things you asked me to do were a part of the narrative rather than obstructions to its progression.
