Wait what's wrong with semicolons? I use them all the time; semicolons just do what other punctuation wishes it could.

I’ve seen job ads saying candidates must know that a semicolon can always be a new sentence, which is like... it could be? But this flows better. I think it’s because Vonnegut called them pretentious and people be sheeple.

It COULD be a new sentence, if you exclusively like shorter clipped sentences; but there's something about the rambling feel semicolons give that full stops can't replace.

Exactly. It depends on what you want, and both are good at different times. Imo, a gorgeous paragraph gets its rhythm through a carefully choreographed mix of staccato sentences and long, meandering ones. Semicolons can help with that.
