It COULD be a new sentence, if you exclusively like shorter clipped sentences; but there's something about the rambling feel semicolons give that full stops can't replace.
Exactly. It depends on what you want, and both are good at different times. Imo, a gorgeous paragraph gets its rhythm through a carefully choreographed mix of staccato sentences and long, meandering ones. Semicolons can help with that.

YEAH all about that rhythm between long and short sentences! Semicolons let you drag out a sentence on and on before ending it with a few quick sharp sentences; without them that kind of word-overdrawn feeling is harder to get. Big loss without them. Lots of em dashes too.
