Narrative Devs, honest question: What is your take on writing tests for new hires? I don't use them. I prefer to read a writer's past / personal work to get an idea of their interests and passions. Writing tests have always struck me as a waste of time, theirs and mine.
I'm a believer in short narrative tests that ask the applicant to adopt the tone and voice of the project, to prove they have engaged with it and can adapt to it. Other than that, happy to go on their portfolio.
I can understand the thinking behind tests that have you edit in response to feedback as that's *such* an important part of the job, but would be hesitant due to time spent on it.
I like this compromise.
