I've been called posh all my life. I've never had a Leicester accent despite growing up among kids who did, and I can't even do a passable imitation. I've been mistaken for a Kiwi (technically I am), Dutch, Danish, South African and German, all by my fellow Brits.
My family used living room. I grew up working (bordering lower-middle) class.This! I was surrounded by the Devonshire accent growing up but I can’t for the life of me mimic it. A few people have asked where I’m from, or if I’m American, though tbf I think exposure to American media may have tinged it.

I used to get asked all the time where I was from, even had someone convinced I was Norwegian. My accent would drift (stuff life saying the 'a' sound in grass or bath in both a hard or soft way in the same sentence).

Okay so for a while I intentionally took on the northern A because I was obsessed with Chris Eccelston’s doctor and wanted to be just like him

When I've asked people why they thought I was a foreigner, they said it was because I enunciate properly, rather than using contractions like a native speaker would.
