One thing that always bugs me... when you say ‘generally’, do you usually mean it in the positive, glass-half-full sense of ‘consistently’, or in the glass-half-empty sense of ‘with exceptions’?

I guess you mean as an adverb, rather than a sentence start - e.g. "Generally, I'm clear about sentence construction" vs "I'm generally clear about..."? In the former, I'd say it just means "in most cases."
The former is still classed as an adverb, no? Those two sentences feel about the same to me — the placement didn’t change my interpretation
