One thing that always bugs me... when you say ‘generally’, do you usually mean it in the positive, glass-half-full sense of ‘consistently’, or in the glass-half-empty sense of ‘with exceptions’?

Just personally, I usually use it to bolster the (general) perceived truthfulness of the statement by trying to address and insulate it from individual contradictory examples.
Ahhh, so you use it to imply that something is MORE true than if you’d left it out?? Very interesting.

I think! I'd say "Joey's Eatery generally makes great pizza" to make room for the time someone present had ordered it & the crust was undercooked. But if I said "Joey's makes great pizza", my entire premise could be invalidated by the one contradictory experience someone had?
