One thing that always bugs me... when you say ‘generally’, do you usually mean it in the positive, glass-half-full sense of ‘consistently’, or in the glass-half-empty sense of ‘with exceptions’?

Last one. If someone gives you a compliment, but adds the word ‘generally’, do you then feel good or bad about it? I.e. ‘You’re generally nice’/‘You’re generally skilled’ etc

Okay, LAST last. I wanna know if being a Brit has anything to do with how ‘generally’ is used and perceived. So, are you from the UK, and how do you feel about it?

Same. I mentioned elsewhere, but if someone adds generally to a compliment I’ll tend to feel worse than if they’d just abstained. It almost feels malicious, like a way of saying ‘I want you to know that I think you’re not up to standard’.
