The idea of women (young or otherwise) using “like um actually” as a filler to prevent someone else from interrupting them as they gather their thoughts. This is it. This is it right here. https://vm.tiktok.com/JNjndJY/ pic.twitter.com/6cxkbaP3Qq

Men interrupt and talk over me all. the. fricking. time. and I'm just -done- with it. Like has served me well, allowing me to better hold my place in a conversation.

I’ve certainly learned to do so now or I don’t get to speak.

So you always get interrupted no matter who you're talking to and have never interrupted someone unless they did it first?

I see you've never heard of figures of speech. It happens a lot. Men interrupt me far, far more often than women do. It happens really often. Everyone interrupts from time to time and I'm no exception, but I make an effort to catch myself, apologise and let the other person go on

No one is making you apologise for interrupting someone, even if men interrupt you more than women why are you still talking to those people? Just ignore them then talk to someone else. My main issue with what your saying is people are going to think men are all bad people Which-

I want to apologise because I find it rude, just as I find it rude when others interrupt me. If I stopped speaking to those who interrupt me, it would mean alienating a lot of people I care about. If I'm close to someone, I call them out.

Nobody sincerely thinks that all men are bad people. There's plenty of research to show that men tend towards a competitive communication style, whereas women on average err towards co-operative. That's just how many people are socialised.

But if we're going to see more inclusive shared spaces, particularly workplaces, then we need adjust the way we communicate to BE inclusive, giving people their chance to speak rather than expecting them to fight for it when that might not be in their nature.

Otherwise you end up with a workplace culture where only the most domineering individuals are heard, and they might not always be the people with the most valuable insight.
