Just your scheduled reminder not to treat people online with the same careless indifference with which you treat NPCs. Your words have real-world consequences. Think before you type.
++ When dunking on folks, please weigh the IRL effect. Maybe your call out does something good, like warn potential victims. Great! Or... maybe it gets you a pat on the head from those who already agreed with you while an abuser takes out their wounded pride on someone else.
I'm NOT saying be nice to/tolerate/coddle assholes. I'm saying be conscious of your confrontation approach and maaaybe consider prioritising strategies that stand a chance of changing their world view rather than entrenching what may have started out as redeemable ignorance.
This is not the duty of victims. It shouldn't even be the duty of allies, but I believe it is an ACT of allyship. Idk about you, but I'd rather take the strategy with the best chance of preventing future abuse where possible. Wouldn't you?
(Using these terms quite broadly btw. There are obviously degrees and exceptions. My point is simply to weigh it for yourself on a case-by-case basis rather than always defaulting to aggression, as some folks here do.)
