My guy friends look at me like I'm crazy whenever I say that I don't like feeling stressed in games, that is does nothing for me. Can we break away from this idea that this makes me a "bad" gamer and instead open our minds to the different ways that people connect with media?
I feel like we're seeing more breadth in games lately, particularly indie games. Moar pls.
Oh super agree. I just started playing bioshock infinite because I liked the idea of the world its set in. The first hour was amazing, walking around bobbing skyscrapers and taking in the attractions. Then out of nowhere the game made me shove a dudes head into a saw blade. 
Seems there’s also an analog for RTS & building games - I’m not so interested in mining ore and building another medieval (or space) forge, but the feeling that helping little virtual people live their best lives is a predictable, solvable puzzle is so soothing
Games are absolutely boring. StarCraft excepted. Look at Star Citizen. Beautiful, but shaping up to be just another FPS.
That’s the reason when I just want to enjoy and chill in some single player games I set the difficulty to Easy, or Newbie, or whatever demeaning name the devs set to their easiest setting trying to persuade me from using it 
This is part of the reason I'm playing TLoU 2 on easy. I can't deal with the stress of combat when it's already a stressful story.
Incredible article! This is why I liked Wheels of Aurelia - the quality of your ending doesn't depend on making a number grow. There are a few moments where you can "lose" a segment but you still develop your character and continue the game.
