Right. Today, I'm making a promise myself. I will no longer entertain people who make me uncomfortable out of fear of being perceived as impolite. No more trying to keep everyone happy. I just don't have the energy.

I spent time and energy trying to help R, along with multiple others. Not wanting to badmouth him or taint others' perceptions of him with my experience because I thought he just needed help. Turns out, my experience was valid. And it would have been good for others to know.

Please don't blame yourself. I know this is rich coming from me, currently blaming myself, but our kindness is not our fault. We'll have our guards up in the future, which is something we shouldn't have to do.
