That detail always bother me too when I watch a survival movie where a woman has been living in nature or in such a situation there would be no way you would think about that 
so that's good this game tackle that
Yes! It's SO male gaze-y. Everything's gotta be believable, unless it's at the expense of the women looking attractive and 'presentable'.
It's like... did she get laser or something? Because mine would be growing back within a day.
To me it's the ultimate social control. Denying to show women as how they should be even in a acting environment, where rules are always broken. Actors will be filmed with a beard and a lot of hair on their body but an actress still have to be hairless on legs and arms.
