We can be glad that we defeated Hitler and still decry Churchill's atrocities as unforgivable. Both those things can happen.

May I also remind folks that it was not Churchill alone who defeated Hitler. It would not have been possible without the millions who fought and died. It is their victory.

I do find defacing monuments a bit much imho. If we can't look at the historical context in which those monuments where put up, we should probably not place monuments ever again for in 75 years someone will deem our actions unforgivable even if we thought it was perfectly normal.

The 2.5 million troops from India played their part, which considering the Bengal famine Churchill chose not to alleviate, was more luck than tact that he even suceeded in directing a winning war. Then again the Nazi structure was a shitshow, so two ineffective leaders bash heads
