I don't know whether it's from quarantine or reading my work while I'm writing, but I now seem incapable of just thinking things without also saying them aloud. I just fully talk to myself these days, all the time, anywhere.

Yup!! I credit my old school's writing center for hugely improving my work. If I'm a good writer, it's absolutely because I talk through what I'm writing; it sounds better if I do that. Helps me avoid writing things that sound unpleasant to read.
Absolutely; I've had a few comments already since I started doing it. Really helps with voice and, like you say, weeding out the stuff that's not working. Wish I'd started earlier. But also, yeah... probably should try to remember not to just think out loud around strangers.
