I don't know whether it's from quarantine or reading my work while I'm writing, but I now seem incapable of just thinking things without also saying them aloud. I just fully talk to myself these days, all the time, anywhere.

Well, it's actually a helpful psychological technique to aid in remembrance and processing. Thus why "rubber ducky programming" is so prominent; programmers talk through their process, and eventually, inevitably, figure out where they went wrong.

Exactly! I made a conscious decision when I started my novel to read it aloud (both as I was writing and while reviewing) in order to be sure of the voice and catch odd phrasing, and then I started doing it to aid with brainstorming (though prefer writing my thoughts) and now...

Every single one of my English teachers (and even some from other classes), have praised the benefits of reading our text aloud. It's wondrous how many things we can catch simply by reading something word for word. Plus, as you said, it's great for nailing rhythm.

Yep! I noticed first that my voice improved after listening to audiobooks, so I started trying to speak with a narrator cadence when I was writing and suddenly everyone was telling me my style had improved soooooo life hacks
