If you're writing a first draft and find yourself intimidated by published work, here's a quick reminder that what you're reading has likely been revised and polished many times. It may have once looked like yours. Don't give up.
Your first draft is still largely exploration. It is your broad brush strokes. Depth, intention, clarity and sometimes even structure — all these things are built and strengthened through iteration. That is true for the vast majority of people, professionals and otherwise.
Make peace with exploration. Make peace with revision. Have faith that you are capable. It's all just part of the same process.
