Yeah, I'm torn between these two conclusions. The dirt theory makes a lot of sense, but I honestly wouldn't put it past this government to plug their ears and sing "la la lala la I can't hear you" until the criticism dies down or gets deflected elsewhere.
The tories have done reprehensible shit before and people still voted them in. They're no doubt confident now that they can weather any storm and still hold a majority. And while I personally preferred Corbyn, perhaps Starmer can appeal to Tory voters and change that.
