Here's the thing about killing dogs in games. The last two times I've seen it (A Plague Tale, Life is Strange 2) it's felt extremely unearned. Both times, you barely know the dog. It's not woven into the narrative as a climax we've built towards, it's just... insta shitty.https://twitter.com/sarahlongthorne/status/1264260866930868224 …

It's like we've just met and you're waving in my face shouting "CARE ABOUT ME BECAUSE I KILLED A CUTE THING LOOK HOW FRICKIN' CUTE IT WAS AND NOW IT'S DEAD SO FRICKIN' CARE" and I'm like... I just don't like you?

(Just to clarify, I still intend on continuing with A Plague Tale and there's much I enjoyed about LIS2, and I don't reaaaally hate you, I'm just annoyed you made me watch a dog die)

I'm pretty sure this was feedback I gave when I played it for the first time! It's just a boring and overused way of making emotions happen without earning them, IMO

They're not even the right emotions. I end up revolted by the game itself for showing me that. Every time I see a horror film and a dog is introduced I'm like... I don't want to even bother. Which was how I felt as soon as I clocked what was gonna happen in A Plague Tale :/

Same with films and books like 99% of the time >_>

YUP. I watched a Spanish horror on Netflix recently and a dog was introduced and I was immediately like "I no longer want to watch this". My suspicions were correct. Dogs are so often introduced just to be killed for cheap shock value.
