How do other people deal with the "you should just give up now so you never have to see how badly you fail" thoughts

just prove to yourself that you're worth every ounce of faith and want for something and when you succeed not if when you do you can shove it in their face and say "i did it despite you hating on me" But know we believe in you also

If you failed, at least you had the courage to try and want something, fortunately failure is a part of the learning curve, we will always fail at something but if your drive and desire is strong, in the end you will be exactly where you want to be I promise :)
