I'm English, did live there for a bit though. They are weird, the whole pronunciation of aluminium, although I do agree with their spelling of 'gray'.

Eh. When we co-opt words from an indigenous language, we don't necessarily normalize their pronunciation (though we probably don't pronounce them correctly according to their source language either...). Keeps life interesting.
