In advertising, when I was younger, I was a talent men wanted to mentor. As I aged and grew in my skill set, I was suddenly a threat. The older I got, the more confidence I had, the more a problem I was. I've seen similar trends in other expressions of women's growth, too. Men in particular who very much enjoyed being the protector figure when I was vulnerable, but lost interest once I was stronger, more self-sufficient and more confident.
