Twitter is both great and just evil 
sometimes I'm reading and it just makes me feel like nothing is enough, everything you do is never enough, do more or your the enemy... I'm doing baby steps in things and that sometimes feels too much for my tiny brain

Deleting the apps is a good middle ground. You can still check on desktop, and if you're desperate you can sign in through a browser app. Just de-incentivises you from checking all the time and scrolling idly. I check Twitter a handful of times a day now, and briefly.
