Someone convince me that wriggle and wiggle don’t mean exactly the same thing. Go on, try it.

To me, wiggling is a supplementary movement. Not actually required to move in itself, whereas you may need to wriggle oneself free from something, by motion or other means. e.g. wriggling out of a boring meeting by making excuses.

Wriggle out of a meeting = get to do something else instead. Wiggle out of a meeting = rock your hips to and fro when exiting a completed meeting, for the enjoyment of those following you.

You’ve covered the figurative definition of wriggle, but the literal is still identical in terms of the movement itself (regardless of intention)
