Someone convince me that wriggle and wiggle don’t mean exactly the same thing. Go on, try it.

To wiggle is fun i.e do a little dance. To wriggle is more like something you'd do to escape. You wouldn't wiggle free of something. The R makes things take a sinister turn.
Haha, apparently so! But when I think of the movement associated with ‘wriggle free’, I can imagine accomplishing the same by wiggling

To me, wiggling is a supplementary movement. Not actually required to move in itself, whereas you may need to wriggle oneself free from something, by motion or other means. e.g. wriggling out of a boring meeting by making excuses.
