I find them so dry! I’m about a fifth of the way through the second one and it’s taken me eight years because I kept getting stuck on the first.
I have a very short attention span for reading. Fantasy is my favourite genre, but the tendency of fantasy authors to drag on and on and get all Tolkien means that I find it harder to engage with them than any other genre.

This is completely valid. Some authors I just have issues with the same. It is one of the reasons I love Sanderson's books. (Who happens to have finished the WoT when Rigney passed away)

I... actually found the same with Sanderson — the only exception being Skyward, which was utterly captivating. Mistborn has a nice start (well, it was more the premise) but then it was just AGES of people in a room making plans.
