I’m relieved to come out of this decade saying I made myself proud. I recovered from bulimia, got a 1:1 for my dream degree, and finally wound up being paid to actually put that degree to use and write creatively for my favourite medium. So yeah. Nether young me nor anyone I knew growing up could have ever foreseen this outcome. I was distinctly average. Hopes weren’t abysmal, but they weren’t high, and my dreams were considered unrealistic. I just just the weird gap-toothed dead dad girl. That was it.
But... I think my dad would have been proud, too. He was a writer and a gamer. Big ol’ nerd. He got me into fantasy. Little did he know what he was gearing me up for. I like to imagine we would have gamed together, and he would have played my games.
