I initially built for melee because that’s what I usually enjoy, but ended up restarting with a different build. I love the game but like you say, melee doesn’t feel so rewarding.
That said, have got invested in your dialogue skills? Some dialogue skills make enemies run away, so may not be complementary with melee.
