My intuition is that this instance compromises the integrity of other arguments. But I’m just one little white girl who probably feels protective of her hometown. I’d like to hear other perspectives that I may not have considered.

My hometown is known as ‘the little white town’ (on signs etc) because Charles Kingsley described it as such in a book *due to the colour of the buildings*. This has been called a racial slur. I’d really appreciate opinions from POC.

An unfortunate équivoque. Someone who doesn’t know that buildings in Bideford are predominantly painted white can’t be blamed for misunderstanding. I don’t think it is a terrible thing to change the signs for the sake of social cohesion. But it should be up to the residents.
