Really useful advice! I must argue that I really don’t like the « make friends in the industry » as it will definitely scare a lot of people — networking is NOT making friends.

I disagree :) I think when we think of networking as shaking hands in suits, it’s cold and scary and all about using people. When we think of it as making friends, it’s warm and achievable and about supporting one another.

This is extremely true. Yet, not every game dev wants to « be your friend » for many different reasons.

I mean, they don’t have to be. I guess it depends on how you look at it. If I’m being friendly to someone, being kind or generous to them, and I’m getting along with them and they seem to like me/be doing the same in return, I’m gonna start seeing them as something like a friend

My take here is: - one should approach devs as full humans and not just in terms of what they could maybe do for you - as with any other big group of humans, some of them will be potential friends (even very close friends) and some won't, which is fine
