Me, a games writer: I wish I had something like Word where I could write freely, except that it recognised components of branching narrative and would format it for me, tell me where my logic is broken and spit out a tree-style diagram (or Unity plug-in?) at the end.

Maybe a stupid suggestion but have you tried working in yED? It's a flowgraph tools that so far is honestly the only way I've found of laying out decent branching dialogue.

I haven' heard of this, but I'll take a look. I don't want to be making the flow diagrams as I go, though; I wanna be writing straight into a text editor as I currently do and having it spew out the diagram for me. Not that I actually need the diagram, but it's a nice to have.

Ah. Then it's going to be literally the opposite of what you want. Do you not find that without doing the flow as you go along the whole thing bloats up massively and doesn't connect?

Not at all :) it might just be me but that’s the way I’ve always done it asks I seem to have a knack of staying on top of everything. Also the format I write in makes it easier.

I'd love to see your tutorial show case to work out what you're doing that I'm not (other than being more experienced and talented obviously).

Sure thing! It’s just very basic visual novel beginner stuff and I’ve left out more complex stuff, but the approach can be adapted away from VNs. I’ll ping it over.
