It was nothing compared to the churches I hear about in the US Deep South, but it was bad. I got so much shit when I started dating an atheist and I feel so bad for him looking back because he had to put up with the effect that had on me and our relationship. He was a better guy.
I also got in a LOT of shit for questioning that maybe, just MAYBE, evolution is real.

There was also huge pressure to pass out and stuff in church. One time I admitted that I couldn’t physically feel the presence of god and I was told that I couldn’t be ‘lukewarm’ or Jesus would ‘vomit’ me from his mouth.
