So if I got a job in the US, I wouldn’t be able to buy a house in case I lost my job and had to leave the country at short notice.
Many of us have to operate under the assumption that all those really cool games studios in the US are off limits. We will never be able to work there. And even if we were sponsored, if anything went wrong and we lost the job, we’d be screwed.

Also, as good as the pay seems in the U. S., our cost of living (especially in places with AAA studios) is stupid high. So even if by some miracle you continue employment you probably can't afford a house anyways, just like the rest of us poor bastards.

Saw something like that first-hand due to poorly timed paperwork (it got delayed in a red-tape bottleneck, wasn't any one person's fault). Poor guy had to move back to Canada, jobless, because of it. :/
