Uni and courses have been great and stuff but they also leave you petrified of breaking rules. Step two, once you know the rules, is to decide which ones matter... and which don't. Just because something is 'the done thing' doesn't mean you have to do it too. Forge your own path!https://twitter.com/SamSykesSwears/status/1181633131666755584 …
Tradition is, mostly, an awful reason for doing something. Consider *why* you're doing it. Is it a good reason? Or just because it's become convention? Do you *have* to follow convention right now? What is the core thing you need to achieve -- is there another way?

Take screenplays. Convention: keep descriptions minimal, functional. But a script exists to communicate vision to the team that can bring it to life; you just need to do that in a way they will understand. The Game of Thrones pilot script is very description heavy, and it works.

This is all very much I'm learning *right now*. Previously, I've been a stickler for writing rules -- and that works for editing and writing in teams. But you gotta question why something is the done thing. Question whether you agree with it. No? Do it YOUR way.
