Weird feeling. I've spent two weeks working solidly on a screenplay. During lunch, from the moment I leave work until gone midnight. All day while I've been sick. And while I love my story, I'm facing the fact that a lot of people won't, and that right now it's probably bad.

I'm very drained. And very insecure about it. And very gutted that something I've busted my ass for is still gonna need a lot of work before it's any semblance of good, and that a lot of people just won't like it anyway, because genre, because weird, because preferences.

I have this same issue. Finished an entire manuscript, and now I have to tear it apart and rearrange it to even make it readable.
But, if you love your story, and you're speaking the truth, then others will love it too.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -

Find a champion, someone who likes the premise that you can share the developments with. Not only bc it makes you less lonely, but also bc it's proof. If you can get 1 person to like it, you can get 2, can get 4, can get 10, etc.

Its kinda hard to recognize our work bc we spend our time on writing / art twitter. But the vast majority of people who have an idea for a screen play, *don't* write it. Keep going. Love your story. Be proud of yourself. We *are* proud of you.

Thank you
I’m proud of you, too! I’m absolutely in awe that you’ve finished a draft of your manuscript; that’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but have yet to achieve. For various reasons.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -

Honestly, im in awe too. It's my first time finishing.
I really couldn't have done it without my champion. She lent me so much emotional strength when I was running out. She could see the growth and progress from afar, and remind me I was going in the right direction.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -

Does your champion regularly read your work, or is it more of a ‘woo yeah you can do it’ thing?

She's my partner, who lives with me. So, she read my pages roughly twice a week. I also chat with her constantly about my project. Apart from me, I'd say she knows my characters the best. She's unbelievably supportive and I'm so lucky.

I think what really helps is that: 1) she understands intimately what I'm trying to do. (Through convos or reading or w/e) 2) is willing to give advice and just listen And 3) believes in me and is vocal about it. I think you can find those 3 things in different ppl,

Wow that’s great! My boyfriend gets funny about reading anything I’ve not finished, though from his POV he just wants to motivate me to get it done.

Thats okay! Your champion doesn't need to be your partner, nor do you have to have a single one. Ask yrself what you need from a champ. To read your pages? To chat in the middle of the night? To just sit you down an say "you can do it"? knowing is the first step to finding one
