It’s completely normal not to want to do the things that will help you. As far as I’m aware, that’s part of the package. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do them. In those moments, trust that you should help yourself even if the idea repulses you. Just do it. Do it anyway.

I don’t think that’s just you. I’d be surprised by anyone who said they found it easy to help themselves, particularly at their lowest. If it were easy, it wouldn’t be such a problem, but there’s literally something inside us that recoils from recovery.

Perhaps, while horrible, there’s actually something familiar and almost comforting about pain which makes it preferable to the unknown that is recovery. Or perhaps it’s a feeling of just punishment or obligation to pain. Perhaps all of those.

When we feel ourselves digging our heels, we should endeavour to see it for what it is and do the exact thing we don’t want to do. Put on a funny vine compilation. Load up a puzzle game. Just a few clicks.

yeah i usually do something to help with that, whether its a game or vidoe, or even talk to people, but then i often find myself, just sat there and vollah, a wave of emotion comes rushing through breaking every barrier i have (regarding what i pm'd you about)

I get that. Comedy, things that force you to laugh despite yourself, can temporarily shatter that feeling. Better yet are things that occupy your mind for extended periods, where you literally can’t think about anything else, including what hurts. The mind guides the emotions.
