Aw thanks! Hands-on experience in a studio environment is invaluable, but I’d absolutely attribute a hell of a lot of value to someone having taught game design. That gives you a different kind of edge. If I were hiring, I’d be interested to chat with you further.

How necessary or possible is it to demonstrate in the application process how your writing can create choice for players (or the illusion of choice)? ie. avoiding linear game design - is that case by case or a good overall demonstrable skill?

Not all games use branching, so I’d say tailor it to the application and the games that studio is making, though it’s useful to have a sample in your arsenal. But if the studio makes branching games... absolutely. They’ll wanna know you can do it.
