I think I have been a bad friend before, done my friends a disservice by defending them to the last regardless of whether I actually, deep down, agreed with them. And I think that damaged us because from then on our friendship had no capacity for truth. It was either break or lie
In retrospect, I think protecting people from having to learn their own fallibility is one of the worst things you can do as a friend. You have not only doomed your friendship, but you have damaged that person’s growth.
Whey, lost two followers from this. Go ahead, folks. You are not obliged to have to look at my self pity and I don’t blame you for trying to keep your timelines positive.
That’s a really hard lesson to learn and such a fine line to walk. It sucks when they don’t take the correction well, even when it’s well meant. Better the rebuke of a friend than the kids of an enemy.
Eurgh, learning is painful. I hope I’ll be a better and most honest and self-respecting friend to those who come after. For my own sake as well as theirs.
